Growing citrus is actually relatively easy if you understand the basics:
- Citrus are heavy feeders
- Citrus don’t like wet feet
- Citrus trees prefer full sun to partial shade
- Citrus are a tropical plant and prefer warmer climates however there are cold hardy citrus varieties available.
The biggest thing to consider when deciding to grow citrus is really just deciding if you want to grow it in the ground or in a container. If you have a room for in-ground trees and are in USDA Zone 8 which most of you will be then you are somewhat limited to what will thrive in the ground with minimal winter protection. There are great varieties that will however, we talk more about those on this site and in our blog. If you don’t have yard space, rent your home, don’t want to worry about trying to protect trees over the winter, or just don’t want to be limited on the varieties you can grow… then growing in containers is a great option for you.
The good news is I can help you grow in-ground and in containers.
